  16. CUPERTINO, California╨╨April 16, 1992╨╨In an effort to reach even
  17. more users for its award-winning Macintosh PowerBook computer, Apple
  18. Computer, Inc. announced today that it is reducing prices in the
  19. United States on six PowerBook 100 and 140 models.  At the same time,
  20. Apple is adding new PowerBook 140 and 170 models that are equipped
  21. with larger capacity hard disk drives.
  22.     Beginning today, the suggested retail price (SRP) of the PowerBook
  23. 100 configured with 2MB of RAM and a 20MB hard disk will be $1,499, a
  24. price reduction of 25 percent.  The PowerBook 140 equipped with 2MB
  25. of RAM and a 40MB hard drive was reduced from $3,199 ($500) to
  26. $2,699.
  27.     "Since it was introduced six months ago, the PowerBook computer has
  28. attained a strong position in a highly competitive market," said Fred
  29. Forsyth senior vice president and general manager of the Macintosh
  30. hardware division.  "These price reductions will help continue the
  31. momentum established since the PowerBook was introduced."
  32.     PowerBook sales have exceeded 200,000 units since it was introduced
  33. six months ago. It has won more than a dozen national and
  34. international awards from general business, trade and design
  35. publications, including "Best New Product of 1991" by Time, Fortune
  36. and Business Week. Recently BYTE Magazine awarded the PowerBook 170
  37. its 1991 Readers' Choice Awards for Best Hardware Product and Best
  38. Portable/Notebook.
  39.     With today's price changes, the Macintosh PowerBook 100 computer
  40. continues to be the smallest, lightest and most affordable member of
  41. the PowerBook line of notebook computers.  The suggested retail price
  42. reduction further enhances the PowerBook 100 computer's
  43. price/performance appeal.

  45. New Macintosh PowerBook Models Added
  46.     Apple also announced the availability of three new PowerBook models
  47. equipped with 80MB hard disk drives.  In all, Apple added five new
  48. configurations of the PowerBook 140 and 170.  These new models come
  49. standard with either 2MB or 4MB of RAM and a 40MB or 80MB internal
  50. hard disk drive.  Suggested retail prices of the new
  51. PowerBook 140 2/80 configuration starts at $2,999.  "Customers have
  52. requested more flexibility when installing options like additional
  53. RAM or modems," said Forsyth. "The new models answer those
  54. requirements."
  55.     Apple also announced plans to offer a special promotion that makes it
  56. easier for U.S. customers to buy Macintosh PowerBook computers using
  57. special financing incentives.  The "Easy to Buy. Easy to Use"
  58. promotion, which offers finance incentives with no finance charges
  59. and no payments for three months, begins April 15, 1992 and runs
  60. through July 5, 1992.

  62. Pricing & Configurations
  63.     All Macintosh PowerBook computers are equipped with an integrated
  64. trackball and palm rest, a full-size keyboard, and an easy-to-read
  65. full-page-width screen.  Standard features include System 7.0.1, full
  66. networking capabilities with AppleTalk Remote Access software, a SCSI
  67. port for connecting a range of Macintosh peripherals and a sound-
  68. output port and speaker.
  69.     The new U.S. pricing structure is effective immediately.  (Pricing
